Louis Joinet, vice-president of Martine Anstett Prize association, left us on September 22, 2019 at the age of 85.

From Chile to Uruguay, from Iran to Algeria, from Haiti to Paris, this clever jurist, the founder of the Syndicat de la Magistrature (magistrates' union), has never ceased, throughout his lifetime, to do justice to the victims of torture or “enforced disappearance”.

As with Martine Anstett, with whom he had worked for several years in Geneva, his entire existence will remain a model of humanist commitment. He gave his name to the UNO "Joinet Principles", principles against impunity for human rights abuses.

Humanity has just lost one of its most faithful representatives, but the sky is gaining a star.
